So This Latte Art Thing
Even as I begin to write this my fellow barista sitting next to me is shaking her head and rolling her eyes. I’m open to suggestions about how to hold a Montreal Latte Art Throwdown where not everyone would have to be in the same place at the same time, and best I can figure is to set an hour or two every week (maybe on a weekend afternoon) where baristas (home and professional) can show up and pour their own latte/cappuccino/macchiato. A photo would be taken of each and posted to a flickr account and linked to from the website. Winner takes home some swag from our cafe and a few contributing restaurants in town. Who’s up for it?
PS: I thought about challenging stores across the county (we’re looking at you Crema.ca) but logistically it would be a nightmare.

Good idea Anth. Although maybe instead of setting a specific time, it could be set weekly so that contestants had the entire week (or at least one full day) where they could choose a time that works for them to pour. Then they could take short videos of themselves to submit along with the pictures proving that they were the ones doing it and not being sneaky.
Actually, scratch that. What about having it over the span of one day, and then making sure there’s a copy of that day’s newspaper in the photo with the latte.

What would make it even better is for one photo of each entry, especially the top five, be professionally presented at Cafe Myriade itself. Hang black-and-white photos up on the wall like a photography exhibition. Nice in the cold, dark winter…
